Does Acupuncture and Massage Really Work?

Acupuncture has been practised for at least 3,000 years , and is among the many elements of what is referred to as Traditional Chinese Medicine, also called TCM which is short for. TCM encompasses not just acupuncture, but also moxibustion, the cupping method, Chinese herbalism, TUI nua, and much more.

Acupuncture is based on the idea of yin Yang that pervades not just the human body, but also the entire universe. They are two opposing forces that exist in the body, and are also mutually complementary and it is believed that neither can function without another. There are believed to be twelve meridians, or pathways within the body, through which energy flows, with the Chinese term for energy being Qi. If both yin as well as Yang are in harmony, the energy is able to flow freely through meridians that connect the body's outer layer to the organs of the body, and the body is healthy.

If yin and Yang become imbalanced Qi can't flow freely and results in unhealthiness. To reverse this, the procedure of acupuncture involves the introduction of extremely fine needles through the skin. They may be able to penetrate as deep as one inch.

Acupuncture can also be used in conjunction with certain massages, for instance sports injuries massages, and with moxibustion , which involves the combustion of specific herbs near meridians of the skin's surface.
